Your morning routine has a massive effect on your physical and mental wellbeing and of course your skin.

If you start your morning with a cup of coffee dehydrating even more your already dehydrated insides – remember you haven’t drunk water for all of the hours you were asleep and unless you drunk water just before going to bed – that could be over 10 hours! – you are starting your day off, extremely dehydrated.

No matter how much water you drink throughout the day your organs, including your skin are going to be struggling to rehydrate themselves.

Although your skin is your largest organ – its level of hydration is not as important in keeping you alive as keeping your liver hydrated, or your brain – so unless you consume a lot more water though out the day than needed, and do not drink any dehydrating drinks such as coffee, soft drink, alcohol or tea – your skin won’t get the hydration it needs.

I don’t have anything against coffee – in moderation – by which I mean – only 1-2 cups per day – and small ones – not super large – 2 or 3 shot ones – 1 shot = 1 cup……….. ok!

And only after your first glass of water!

The 5 non-negotiables to my daily routine are:

  1. Hydrate

As soon as you wake up, make it a ritual to start your day with a tall glass of warm water, or hot water – ideally with a squeeze of lemon in it. If like me – the lemon causes you to spend the whole day running to the loo equalling serious dehydration by end of play – then skip this part. If you cannot handle the warm or hot water – at least start off with cold water or a  glass of sparkling water (buy a soda stream, or check the mineral water bottle you buy is only sparking mineral water – no salt or sugar added)

Ideally, your water should be filtered – NOT tap – tap water is full of chemicals which will mean you are starting your day off adding the burden to your system to flush these chemicals out as well.

This simple yet powerful act helps to kickstart your metabolism, flush out toxins, and hydrate your body from within. Plus, it sets the perfect foundation for a day full of healthy choices.

  1. Embrace the Sun

Vitamin D is not a vitamin as we are so often told – the best way we can absorb vitamin D effectively is to step outside and let the sun’s golden rays embrace you in a warm, comforting hug with no sunscreen on your skin or sunglasses (you need to do this before 10 am in the morning!) So, if you have slept in – you will need to walk under the trees to access your vitamin D.

Vitamin D is essential for maintaining healthy skin. And this early morning sunlight boosts your mood and energizes your spirit.

  1. Exercise/Move

Whether it’s a brisk walk, a jog, a HITT session or a gentle yoga flow or Pilates session movement gets your circulation going – detoxes your lymphatic system and makes your skin come alive with vitality thanks to all of that lovely fresh blood flowing through your system and the lymphatics removing all of the toxins. Plus, it helps you poop!

  1. Nourish with Green Goodness

After some invigorating movement, it’s time to nourish your body from the inside out. Treat yourself to a vibrant green smoothie packed with nutrient-rich ingredients like leafy greens, cucumber, celery, and a splash of refreshing citrus, apple, or pear. This hydrating elixir is brimming with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that support cellular rejuvenation and leave your skin positively radiant. Take it to the next level and add a scoopful of your favourite greens powder to ensure you get all of your greens, reds, enzymes and probiotics in for the day.

  1. Power Up with Protein

Protein is essential for repairing and rebuilding cells, including skin cells. Protein is important for ensuring a firm, youthful complexion, strong limbs, and an active metabolism. Whether you prefer eggs, Paleo muesli, or plant-based protein sources like tofu, chia or hemp seeds, pair it with healthy fats such as avocado on sourdough bread or gluten free bread and add a rainbow of colourful veggies for a nutrient dense energy building breakfast. Do not consume protein shakes – they contain a multitude of hidden toxins

  1. Glow up with a healthy skincare routine.

Even if you are staying home – don’t skip your morning skincare routine – no more than you should skip it at night. Your skin detoxifies itself throughout the night, so you need to remove the dirt, dead skin cells, oil and bacteria it has brought to the surface.

Everything you apply to your skin is absorbed into your body, and it goes to the closest organ to where you apply your skincare ingredients – so the ingredients from your face care will go to your brain, fabulous if your cream and cleansers and oils are 100% clean and organic as possible such as the Everything Skin Range – so never apply anything you wouldn’t eat.

I highly recommend you help your skincare ingredients penetrate your skin whilst detoxing your lymphatics by using a Gua Sha or facial cups with your facial oil or cream.

By incorporating these simple yet effective steps into your morning routine, you’ll set the stage for a day filled with boundless energy, positivity, and, of course, radiant skin.

Embrace the start of each new day as an opportunity to nourish your body, nurture your spirit, and shine from the inside out. Here’s to waking up to your most radiant self every single day!
