Massaging your face daily may seem like an indulgence that many of us don’t have time for – but spending at least 3 minutes per day massaging your face, neck and decolletage can and will ensure that you maintain and or achieve the most beautiful glowing skin you can get. One way you can ensure you fit your daily facial massage in is by doing the 3 minute cleanse method – this doubles up as a deep cleanse, whilst nourishing your skin if you use a good facial oil to cleanse your skin. The benefits of daily facial massage
Before the massive skincare revolution occurred – making people believe that to achieve glowing skin – you need to spend copious quantities of money on skincare – women used to use massage to maintain beautiful youthful skin – today, finally – we are moving back to facial massage to clear problem skin, tone facial muscles, and to detox congested skin.
One of my beauty therapist friends who has always been an active advocate of facial massage tells me her grandmother used to sit for 20 minutes every night massaging her face and neck to keep it youthful and soft – I personally am too exhausted to do this every night – but I always make time to massage my oil cleanser into my face, neck and decolletage for 3 minutes (use an egg timer if you need motivation – or set your phone’s timer!).
Why is it so important to massage your face daily?
- Improves Circulation
Facial massage stimulates blood flow, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. Enhanced circulation can give your complexion a natural, healthy glow while promoting faster cell turnover, aiding in the skin’s repair and renewal process.
- Reduces Puffiness
Gentle lymphatic drainage techniques used during facial massage can reduce puffiness and swelling by encouraging the removal of excess fluid and toxins. This is brilliant in the morning when your face looks puffy and swollen. 3 minutes and bye, bye puffiness!
- Boosts Collagen Production
Regular massage stimulates collagen production -when done regularly – it helps to maintain a firmer jawline, remove bags under eyes, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin and facial features a more youthful appearance.
- Relieves Tension
Facial massage can alleviate muscle tension, particularly in the jaw and forehead, where stress often manifests. This not only helps you relax but may also prevent tension-related wrinkles from forming over time such as the 11s on the forehead from frowning.
- Enhances Product Absorption
The warmth from your hands combined with the massage technique helps your skin better absorb the benefits of your skincare products. Ensure that you always use skincare that is free of chemicals when you massage – you don’t want toxic chemicals entering your bloodstream and making their way into your vital organs.
- Encourages Mindfulness
Taking a few minutes to massage your face can act as a form of self-care and mindfulness. The soothing motions and focused attention on yourself can reduce stress and improve mental clarity, helping set a positive tone for the day or helping you unwind at night.
- Promotes Detoxification
By stimulating lymphatic drainage, facial massage helps remove toxins and waste from the skin. This detoxifying effect helps reduce breakouts and breaks down congestion which over time, helps achieve a clearer smooth fresh complexion!
How to facial massage correctly
- Choose the right product: Use a facial oil or balm with a reasonably thicker texture to avoid tugging on your skin.
- Be firm: Use moderate to firm pressure; lightly fluffing over your face trying to avoid tugging (if you are tugging at your skin -you are not using enough facial oil or balm) will not help your skin – when you have a facial – your facialist doesn’t fluff – she gives you a facial massage which is firm and flowing to achieve maximum results.
- Follow a routine: work in an upward and outward motion to detox, lift and tone the skin, avoid pulling down as this will cause sagging over time.
- Focus on problem areas Spend extra time on areas which are causing you issues – such as where your pimples are, puffy eyes or sagging jawline.
- Use tools: If you find massaging your face with your hands boring – change it up by using Gua sha stones, or facial cups – they can enhance the experience and will provide additional benefits.
Daily facial massage is a simple, cheap yet powerful addition to any skincare routine if you are serious about improving your skin, if you have ever had a facial with a really great massage – you will remember how amazing your skin looks and feels afterwards! The benefits of daily facial massage
